KELLY BROOK’S DRESS, YES, NO, MAYBE SO?

What do we think of Kelly Brook’s dress? We know that feathers are immense for this autumn/winter trend, but do we think that Kelly Brook has taken it a bit far with this dress at a party in London?

WHAT EDUCATION CAN DO!!

               Student protest against tuition fees

A student protest against rising tuition fees turned violent with demonstrators forcing their way into a building and smashing windows as they approached Parliament. A group barged into the lobby of Tory headquarters at Millbank before being forced out by police and security officers. They then began setting fire to placards outside the entrance. Windows in the office block were smashed and a number of smoke bombs thrown.

SO MUCH WORK SO LITTLE TIME

Toile Number 2

I started of with this shell of the dress firstly, but what I had in mind it wasn’t working with this fabric so I had to change it.

So I changed the material from calico to mesh, so that I could see the beauty of what it is I was trying to do.

From my development of my research I thought that I could be playful with this dress, by adding pieces of sculpture on to the dress. So I got one of the sculptures was from research and enlarged the picture and parts of the picture. Then I cut them out in calico. I didn’t like the result I got from it, by using the bigger pieces, so I decided to stick to the smaller pieces.

Back View
I will be developing this toile by covering the whole dress or laying pieces. In these photos the sculpture pieces are pinned on but for the final or development of the dress the pieces with be tacked together.

Toile Number 1

This is my first toile, I had to make a dress firstly then draw on lines where I wanted the panels to be.

This was the next stage of the dress, where the panels where cut up then seam allowance were added to it. Then it was sew back up together, BUT….. as you can see it has gone wrong because I didn’t add notches to the pattern.
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR NOTCHES IN IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

Draping on the stand

This week at university for fashion directions-pre collection, I have been draping on the stand (mannequin/ tailored dummy) as you might know it as. Draping on the stand has helped me with my design work (that I will be putting up soon on my next post), and will also help with my design development.
It has also helped me to understand how to turn my ideas into reality.

Initial Concept

I choose surrealism as my concept for my final year collection, because I think surrealism is all about uniqueness and weird things.
My core idea was surrealism, but as surrealism is so broad I had to narrow it down. So I choose to do surrealism sculpture and the artist that I choose to look at was Jean Arp.
I think initially it will develop because I want to focus on shape and volume, so I think that sculpture is a good focus point.

I will be draping on the stand to get the shape and volume that I am focusing on, for a more thrilling and more successful collection.
